If you mean as in when you log into your msn account you can't get the emaily bit, then I think you have to verify it first. Or something.
To add friends you click the little person with the add sign by him|||i think the problem is that u went to the wrong website... try to get an account from the website www.msn.com then click hotmail and create a new account from there cause if u directly applying through www.hotmail.com it might not work sometime|||you need to sign up for a hotmail account www.hotmail.com a free account, then you need the latest versaion of windows live messenger which is 8.1 i am believing.
