Is it possible to have a Demat acc on an NRI status?

I have been staying in Toronto for about 7 years now and I would like to start investing for which i need to have an Demat account.....is it possible to open a Demat account on an NRI level?|||Yes you can open your demat account on NRI status. there are many companies which provides demat account for NRI.|||An NRI can open a demat account with any Depository Participant .

The NRI needs to mention the type ('NRI' as compared to 'Resident') and the sub-type ('Repatriable' or 'Non-Repatriable') in the account opening form collected from the Depository Participant.

No permission is required from RBI to open a demat account.

Holding securities in demat only constitutes change in form and does not need any special permission.|||There are several ways through which you could do that,

one would be opening a normal NRE acc, however this would exclude your portfolio investment.

other would be by obtaining a RBI approval from the bank.

consult a professional, NRI acc's can be really tricky if not handled properly. Look up this company called Sushil Finance, they're really nice.|||Yes it is possible to open a demat account on NRI status. Many Banks provide this kind of offer like ICICI direcot Sebi Capsec, HDFC Securities. But in case of NRI demat account you have to pay little more brokerage than general citizen account.|||Open a NRO a/c with HDFC Bank along with a demat a/c. Register with an independent broker.

Do not opt for portfolio management by the bank.|||We are in stock broking business please mail us earnmoney.mdn@gmail.com weare happy to help...
